Unlike many herbs, this salvia can produce powerful hallucinations. Its effects are even more powerful than marijuana or LSD. What makes it even more unique is the fact that it is being considered by many scientists as a therapeutic herb most especially when it comes to treating schizophrenia. Although studies regarding its therapeutic medical effects have not been proven, many people still consider it as a powerful source of fun.

Medical research on SD's therapeutic effects have shown relaxation from some other human disorders like stress, bipolar disorder, attention deficit, depression, anxiety, etc.

Mescaline acts similarly to other psychedelic agents. It binds to and activates the serotonin receptor with a high affinity as a partial agonist. How activating the serotonin receptor leads to psychedelia is still unknown, but it likely somehow involves excitation of neurons in the prefrontal cortex.
