what happened here was three stalks grew, were cut at the top and cut again in the same spots- you must choose different stalks each time or else you will get puffy heads with thick stalks and will make poor cuttings.
this plant at a smaller stage should have been cut to ensure healthier growth, or if one wished to see it 'fall' place next to a long bed of peat moss and let it naturally fall to the bed. Then you can watch Salvia D grow as it does in its natural environment!
